Official Full Size Samples of K-r is Out

See: http://www.pentax.jp/japan/imaging/digital/slr/k-r/ex.html
(Japanese)

Well, aren't they so familiar and that we did have seen something very similar somewhere before?

Here it is! http://www.pentax.jp/japan/imaging/digital/slr/k-x/ex.html

Everything made clear now? Um.. Frankly, the K-r is just a K-x with a Li-ion battery and a different repackaged outlook! I'm afraid.. :-|

All in all, the only major and significant difference between the K-r and K-x is.. The *Price*!

The only major and significant difference between the K-r and K-x is...

AF points.
Better power system.
New AF system.
AF assist lamp.
Faster FPS.
Improved Buffer.
iR simple.
Better LCD.
Improved ISO handling.
Movie Mode improvements.

Having said that, Pentax did the right thing by improving on the weaknesses of their best selling camera without compromising the original system.

PS. you're disdain for Pentax is nothing short of embarrassing.

Sensor was already very good indeed, very good DR, noise performance and detail retaining. If most of the photos go to web or small prints from this segment, even 10 Mpix is enough. Did they deadened shutter and mirror noise ? I suppose they will not wipe out k-x from their portfolio ?

Awww.... C'mon Rice, the sensor of the K-x is already good. You believe that yourself. Why change something that works? The other features as stated by Mr. Big adds cost.

But hey, why buy the latest Toyota when it has the same engine as last year? :-D
Using the good of the K-x and replacing some of the bad is a good thing. A very good thing! I don't see the downside. You get a camera pretty much the same size as the K-x with improvements where the K-x could be improved. Where is the downside? Why change what works?

You get a new and improved version of the K-x for 30% more, I don't see the downside. When I bought the K-x, it was about the same price as the K-r will be when sales start. That's how all camera manufactures do it. They come out with a new model that is an improvement over the old model.

"Essentially the same camera": If you really think that then you shouldn't obsess about gear as you do. The differences are substantial and justify the price.

"Catching up": Ever noticed that the Nikon D7000 is a K-7 clone? Who's the copy cat? Some features of the D7000 may be better, but overall the K-5 is clearly the better camera.
Judging the camera based upon three photographs is pretty impressive Richigh. Seems other reviewers need to put a camera through a whole battery of tests. I've never experienced someone so negative as you seem to be. Perhaps Pentax should put all of the new cameras through a crusher since they are all crap as far as you are concerned. No one should be interested in purchasing such a sub standard product now that you have given it a thumbs down. Just keep in mind this is an entry level camera for for folks just moving into an slr camera. It is not one of your over priced beloved full frame Canons.
