New Pentax Rumours: FF and 645DII Coming

The Pentax "rumourizer" OGL has made a post about an alleged interview with Pentax Ricoh Russia as cited from another Russia forum post:

http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/240639-pentax-ricoh-russia-answers-ff-ricoh-future.html

So, the following are rumoured:

1. FF will be next year. Not later than Photokina 2014. Maybe, on spring or summer, 2014.
2. New DFA lenses will be offered. New 2.8 zooms will be made.
3. New Limited Zoom will be real.
4. New WR lenses will be launched.
5. K-01 is failed because of design. Mirrorless cameras - Ricoh will offer something new.
6. New 645D will be later. It will be different from 645D. It was plans to launch 645DII this year, but the situation is changed.
7. SMC DA LIMITED are discontinued.

If the first rumour is true, then there is just no reason to buy a K-3 now, which is really a true stop-gap product. So, I believe in that rumour and will keep using my K-5 and wait just for a few months longer! ;-p

While great if the rumours are true, I think the k-3 is an excellent product in its own right, nothing "stop-gap". Not everyone is after FF.

OGL posts here. Let's see what he has to say. I don't visit the PF anymore because they are a "sell-side" forum that has branched out to whatever brand is hot. They will say whatever to sell whatever their partners are selling. It is not a "friendly" forum either and they even let back a guy that constantly spams his other cameras. I think the real reason J.O.(the "video" guy) was banned was because he posted a link to a non-partner(Amazn) at the time.

Personally, I don't believe this rumour. Never planned to buy the new "flagship" but interesting how fast the hype on that product has subsided!

This only a personal opinion! Of somebody.

The K-3 looks like a great camera and probably about 1000 less than a Pentax FF will be. The new Pentax full frame will likely compete with Canon 5d mark 3, not the d600. If anything people should have more confidence to go out and buy the K-3 and if the want a full frame in the future they can start prepping their lens setup. I hope they release the FF by end of spring, but it will likely be the fall either way the K-3 should be more enough for 90 percent of shooters out there and it would be good enough for the other 10 percent most of the time.
When I first read what OGL had written.....it was.... "Pay attention! followed by something that it was actually a personal view of a Pentax/Ricoh rep in Russia and nothing else not even a rumor.... and before I wrote this I back checked what it was he really had written....I couldn't since it seems that he have edited his text by only left "Pay attention!..." and nothin else...so, what happend with the latter part of the text.. Has it been changed from a rep's personal view to a rumor ? OGL what happend ?
Hello
My wishes ...
I hope that prime DA 400/5.6 SDM will be avalible in the future...
But it seems that not fast......
DA*300 is still to short for animals.
Best Regards

But Ogl is an idiot who has made it his business to make wild predictions.
Personally I wouldn't place any stock into rumors unless they start appearing on Photorumors and a few other places and even that site is easily trolled and misled. The April 1st announcement of the K-3 full frame comes to mind. PR took that hook, line, and sinker. This site also has some interesting information at times if you can ignore all the wailing and teeth gnashing.... :P

K-3 looks like a great camera, and I hope to buy it, but I don’t consider it as a gap-stop model, and I don’t want a full frame camera. FF will be heavier, much more expensive, and there are no convenient and affordable zoom lenses for FF! No ultrazooms at all, from any maker! I stay with APS-C.

This all sounds very much like I expected, but 1st: Rice has a FF DSLR that takes his FF Pentax lenses, 2nd: I have some great FF K-Mount lenses (Schneider, Zeiss, Hartblei), and 3rd: You should get what you want when you can afford it, if things went differant I'd still have my K-10 & K-20, then my K-5 (A.S.A.P.) for it's 14bit color depth. I'd still get my silver K-3 for $1600, then my FF DSLR (A.S.A.P.) but I can't fault a photographer for wanting a couple FF lenses before the FF camera (I'm sure Ricoh knows this also), the first FF lens might very well be a (28-90mm f/2.8) zoom but a (24-55mm f/2.0) Limited zoom would be costly and better off introduced as a set with a silver FF DSLR. I wish Zeiss still made glass for Pentax K-mount but my Hartbleu (45mm with side focus @ $3000) and their (80mm with side focus @ $4500) are made in the Ukrain, I also believe the Schneider 85mm @ $4500 is German made with a Pentax K-mount as well as someday you'll probably be able to get a German made Zeiss 55mm @ $4000. This glass will work great with the 12mp Canon 5-D I wanted when it first came out, but I don't know how much you'll save for glass (buying a cheap FF vs a good FF) switching brands until all the cards are on the table, i.e. "Photokina 2014"

In almost every shot, the Pentax K-3 had much better color quality than the Nikon D600. Also, the Pentax K-3 did a much better job of auto selecting the appropriate shutter speed while having the camera set to aperture priority. The Pentax K-3 also did a better job of rendering a more pleasing contrast in a variety of situations. Finally, the image sharpness was visibly more appealing in the Pentax K-3 than the Nikon D600.

This test clearly shows the full frame Nikon D600 does not have image quality that is nearly as appealing or accurate as the cropped sensor Pentax K-3. Plus, the Pentax K-3 is currently $500 less expensive than the Nikon D600.

The K-3 is excellent as was is the K-5, I just bought a K-30 a few days ago and so far so good (I expect it will be excellent).
Based on this track record I would LOVE to see a FF from these people.

I did some tripod work last night - I`d love to see an articulated screen.

Regarding Lenses I`d love to see far more weather resistant lenses. The limiteds should all be WR in my opinion.

I really sick of these promises

I dont' care, if Pentax will release an FF body.. After what I saw in this review "K-3 sweeps Nikon D600": http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?ne...
don't believe rumors.

if you want a ff Pentax, buy a 35 mm Pentax camera.

stop whinging please, read the k3 reviews
Dear all,
Just got a chance to look at this website with the D600 and K-3 comparison http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?ne...

Looks like Pentax K-3 is a clear winner. What do you guys think?

K-3 a stop gap measure? Check this test by Digital Camera Review.com website, in which K-3 sweeps the FF D600 in a dustbin.
http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?ne...

Only FF that will top K-3 in overall value for money will be one made by Pentax, not by some Nikon or Canon (what N or C know about cameras anyway — they make black bulldozers only).

DA*55 is best fast fifty, period.
I have one and is great. Build, WR, resistant coatings and pretty compact dimensions are big bonuses side to optical performances.

I'm reminded of the post Rice made about resolving power (I have lots of great glass), if you take the latest nifty fifty (cropped for C-size savings) as well as the most economical focal length to begin with and costing 40% more to boot, then compare it to a economical model of a typically more expensive focal length with a larger image circle (more costly to produce) then any good writer should see it's more a test of the lenses resolving power. A better test of my K-3 with a Pentax DA* 55mm f/1.4 is to compare it to other DSLR/lens combos with similar resolving power were both combos include results limited by the cameras, not just the lenses but this would let photographers see how much it will cost to buy a lens that can use all the resolving power of my K-3 (which at $1600 is penny wise and pound foolish) which at this time might be the 55mm f/1.4 Zeiss @ $4,000 unless the 85mm f/2.4 Schneider @ $4500 has been released. P. S. I find it hard to believe a journalist used that over-simplified formula (the lens factor) to choose which lenses would show the camera's resolution ability, it's for FOV (so you can quickly choose a portrait lens) based on the image sensor's crop factor of the 35mm film-plane.
"no reason to buy a K-3 now, which is really a true stop-gap product."
...nonsense, the FF is the only camera needed? No need for high end APS-C to use current DA lenses? Even Nikon and Canon, with their FF lines have top end APS-C DSLRs. Pentax FF will be nice, but stop this APS-C hate, it's really silly.

Do we really need Pentax FF? ...

Rice, you are a funny one - I had to read it twice before I got your sarcasm of the K-3 being a stop-gap model.

If true, Pentax's lineup in 2014 should matchup pretty well against the competition. They just need to get the pricing right so the K-50 beats the Nikon D3xxx model in price, the K-5II competes with the D5xxx model, and the K-3 continues to take on the D7xxx model. Then if they can have something similar to the D800 that is closer to the D610, and then a new 645 with video capabilities close to the D4 or whatever the flagship is, well then they have a compelling lineup.
Ogl must be very happy seeing that people have left 61 replies here. No one has mentioned that he has made "Full Frame Next Year" predictions before! They didn't come true. He just wants attention.
