http://egami.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2013-10-10
(in Japanese)

So, possibly we would have another three new APS-C lenses and designs, namely, a 18-70mm F4-6, a 16-70mm F4 and a 25-350mm F3.5-6. Good luck, Ricoh Pentax! Hope you will not Rest in Peace too soon! :-x

Nothing interesting.

I'd like to see some FF35 lenses, like:

90 f 1.7 - fain for both FF35 and APS-C, for portret use ( NO MACRO !!! ), fain bokeh, decent sharpness.
14 f 2.8 sharp w.o. and with no complex distortion, for enviromental portret and interior hand held use, and for landscape to.
24-90 f 2.5 sharp w.o, and with fine bokeh rendering.
300 f 4 ED, with hiper-ultra-yotta fast AF ( use some big ass 4 pole makita brushless, if necessary)
600 f 5.6 ED, same as above

14mm for FF without distortion? Is that possible?
I wrote COMPLEX distortion, the so-called so-called mustache distortion.
Just plain barrel is OK, easy to correct in photoshop.
While K3 looks like a nice upgrade from my K5 I think I will finally switch to D600 + Tammy 24-70 VC

Pentax desperately need a replacement for DA*16-50, I've been using Tammy 17-50mm for most of my work and while it works good it is not at the same level as Canikon 17-50 or its FF sibling (24-70)

That focal length should be the bread & butter for APS-C users and no way I will buy a DA*16-50 for $1k when it has cheese strings as AF Motor not to mention not so impressive IQ compared to the tamron 17-50mm.

18-70mm F4-6, a 16-70mm F4 are just waste of resource....when there are 12-24 f4, 16-45 f4 and sigma/pentax 17-70 as alternatives with similar range and F4 aperture....they better off just updating 12-24 with new coating and WR.

25-350 is just silly unless the optic is as good as 55-300 there is no reason on getting it...

The 25-350mm lens could be a great travel zoom, I mentioned some stuff like it year ago. But it must be sharp wide open.

I think, Ricoh could positioning Pentax as the brand with compact, weatherproof, and well-equipped cameras and lenses. With IBIS, it’s a huge advantage to offer compact 50-135mm (50-150mm) and ultrazoom lenses while other makers have only bulk OIS versions.

Concerning FF, I see neither ultrazooms for any brand, no compact and affordable F2.8 lenses… So I really don’t need full frame camera for my purposes.
I do not think there is anything wrong with the upgrading to K3 even if personally I do not see any reason to upgrade. But the new patents??? Those lenses are DARK!!! If K3 has better AF for larger apertures, where are the larger aperture lenses? Pentax (or Ricoh, actually), stop putting out those dim lenses. I would never buy any of them even if they are very cheap. Sigma 18-35 1.8 is the way to go!!!
Who is the market for cropped lenses? Who would be dumb enough to invest in cropped glass. What do you think the resale will be in just a couple of years? At that point Pentax will be out of business at least the DLSR business. There is a small chance they will produce one sub-standard FF dlsr in their last gasp of life, but it is already too late for pentax, those that were with Pentax that could afford a FF have move on to one of the several generations of FF offered by the first tier camera producers. The folks at PF are now comprised of the "flea market folks of photography". Pentax is gone already you just may not realize it yet.

What Rice doezn't know, but makes silly commentz about (az alwayz), iz that thoze dezignz are for compact, mirrorlez APS-C cameraz.

Mirrorless fad is over. Mfgs report sharp drop in mirrorless sales.
If you listen to Mfgs then you shouldn't have a pentax. :)
"25-350 mm" range doesn't make a lot of sense for an APS-C lens. A "37,5-525 mm" equivalent? Are they sure this is not a FF super-zoom?

The other two patents deserve no comments. "18-70mm f/4-6"?????? Is this an APS-C version of the FF "SMC 28-105 f/3.2-4.5 AL IF"? I have one of these, and it's very compact and produced great colours, but a standard zoom, nowadays, should be f/2.8 at least on wideangle.

If Pentax(Ricoh) is not willing to put out some new great optical formulas, at least they could rebadge another APS-C Tamron, the "17-50mm f2.8 AL IF", adding HD coating, a DC motor and WR. I owned one of those (in Canon mount) and it was great. Much better than the comparatively enormous and much more expensive Canon "17-55 f2.8 IS USM".

There should have been a new standard zoom announcement with the seems-to-be-excellent K-3.
Even if they remain commited to APS-C only, that lens roadmap needs a real cleanup/rethinking, IMHO.
Like you keep predicting that Pentax is doomed, what are you going to do when you have finally helped make that happen ? Where will this blog go from there?
And all these people gripping , who actually makes a living from photography? Clients only car about the image not the sensor size....
Hmmm... Maybe these new patents are old designs which they only patented recently just for the sake of patenting? I don't know, because just like Nikon, they patent many designs and concepts but not actually producing it...
It'sgood new lenses will appear, but why have they to be so slow.
The patents means nothing.
Too many patents, but only 1% of patents for lenses become the real lenses.

If you don't work in optics company, you have no idea about inner workingz of that industry. Rice iz no exception.
Patentz are meant to extort the money from competitorz, get royalties, protect the original IP. Improving on this or that formula, doing this or that new dezign, so when someone — who comez out with some interesting camera concept and iz looking for good opticz — they may search the patentz and if they find something interesting, or want a modification, the patent owner getz benefitz.

Mike, as much as I enjoy reading your comments, there is something wrong with the 's' key on your keyboard. Makes your posts hard to read.

I'd like to see what Tokina's plant that made my K-mount Zeiss Lenses can do for a 30mp FF-DSLR, then get a Pentax 30mp FF-DSLR and a better lens for less than the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 I've been looking for. I've never had 10 large (for a Leica) or 4 grand (for the new Zeiss), if I do drop large coin on great glass it would be a macro like the Schneider 85mm f/2.4 or the Hartblei 80mm f/2.8 T.S. For $4400.
Pentax shows promising figure in Japanese sale. Look at kakaku right now, http://kakaku.com/camera/digital-slr-camera/.
Satisfaction ranking (on the right side) is dominated by Pentax. Pentax K-3 gets a good attention too (in the middle). It is for the first time I see such figure.
a compact DA* 16-70mm f/4 would really flow my boat! Bring'em on!
I like some wide angle goodness in inclement (or worse) weather. Make it work, seal it properly (unlike 17-70/4) make it compact, make it beautiful.
f/4 would be alright with me. for evening events I already have my Tamron 17-50. Unfortunately the latter is starting to collect some dust on the inside. And 50mil is often a little short for a standard zoom.

Alternatively: make a wr-version of the 35mil/2.4 and inlcude the freaking distance-scale!! -> then I'll go the prime-route with DA 70. Already have 15/4, so then I'd be reassured that my camera's all-weather capability isn't rendered useless in actual weather. Darn it: why does Pentax not see their own inconsistency and mend it?

Still cannot believe they left their 35/2.4 and 50/1.8 without a distance scale. Get some paint and re-do them, Pentax!

I second your opinion on the DA* 16-70. A zoom lens at thereabout range with that aperture (maybe slightly faster :D) would be almost the only lens I need on most situations. However, it also needs to be lighter and smaller than the competition and not be much more expensive if Pentax wants people to really take notice.

Currently I am happy with my old Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5. It takes good enough pictures for me. But many times I feel it's too big and too heavy, that I wanted to live it at home and take my 18-55. If Pentax can make a 16-70 no heavier than 18-55 that would be great!
