The A7 and A7r will be eye openers for CaNikon, and also for Pentax. The K-3 at $1300 was a world beater, but $400 more for a lighter FF ILC with EVF and connectivity is something many people wouldn't be able to resist. I'd say the K-3 will lose at least 1/3rd of its potential customer.

I predict this will be a sad day for Pentax, unless they somehow drops the price of the K-3 by at least $100 and release the FF K-3 within 6 months, I feel it will be difficult for them to survive in the $1000-$2000 range.

That senzor line, iz so cloze to the mount, much closer than on Leica M. For a FF sized senzored camera, that will mean some nasty, nasty software correctionz becauze everything waz sacrificed to be squeezed in a small, tiny body.
Btw Rice, what this haz to do with Pentax? What 3 hourz? I though you got yourz 5DIII to enjoy FF. So, are you enjoying? It doezn't seems so.
I think smartest people will chooze both Pentax K-3, and this Sony — not exclusively one. But for Rice, there iz alwayz just one solution, just one camera, so he can bash Pentax. Crazy !

Don't worry, dear friends, and don't argue: the Ricoh (former Pentax) "is still working" (C) on the FF camera project.
The process is going on.
Let's be happy of a good APS-C camera K-3 - the new great by-product of the FF project.
Ricoh FF will come soon...

Price is great. But I doubt Sony can make money from this. It looks like too cheap for Sony, which has fewer customers than Canon / Nikon.

This is definitely the future for digital photography. Mirror boxes will be soon obsolete as focusing improves on mirrorless to match the speed. Phones are wiping out point and shoot cameras. Pentax should try a mirrorless medium and full frame if they can get the focusing to match speeds on slrs. If they don`t they`ll be left behind.

After reading around and watching the Camerastore TV early review (how the hell did they get to post it so quickly?!) on youtube. I'd have to say I might have been overly excited on the A7. There are some drawbacks, at least for taking still pictures:

1. No in body stabilizer, and expensive Optical stabilized lens.
2. Plastic body (A7 only.)
3. Loud shutter (much louder than the k-5, it seems)
4. 1/160 Flash sync. even slower than that 1/180 of pentax!
5. Low Battery life (less than 400 shots CIPA) and no external battery charger.
6. Weather sealing doesn't seem as robust as the K-3.

So it does not seem as bleak as before. But Pentax still has to do something about it.

Some more information: http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/10/16/first-imp...
Good camera for the Sony fans.
Folks,
is a FF camera always better than an APS-C camera?
As in: the worst FF is still better than the best APS-C?
Reading some of the trolls here, one might think so.
But not if you are a photographer, as opposed to a gearaholic.
Just my 2c - looking MUCH forward to the K-3.

I wonder how long it will be before a Chinese maker puts a K mount to Sony FE adaptor on the market with auto focus and electronic control (they only have to copy the electronics of the existing Sony adaptor) this will be real trouble for Pentax.

What about a mechanical aperture coupling? Probably inprobable. You will stick with dumb adaptors and aperture ring lenses on Sony A7.

Some Chinese adapters may vignette. We have to wait and see.

If I use the Novoflex Pentax K lens to Sony E body adapter it allows (AE) stop down metering. My Hartbleu T.S. Lens (with side focus) will have an even longer registration distance (not a problem for the 24mp A7) although the A7R might have a problem with due to it's offset design of the gap-less micro-lenses to get low noise with high ISO on par with the 24mp A7. Evan though I want the stronger better build of the A7R few if any lenses we will buy can utilize the resolving power of a Full Frame DSLR with 36mp. Evan if money's no object the $10,000 Leika was designed in the film era, (it might have enough resolving power for a 36mp Full Frame DSLR) and if you change it to an FE mount (which would be like putting lipstick on a pig) you may not get the registration distance as close as OEM or Zeiss. If you do the math (trigonometry) you'll see how the new sensor design (without sensor based AA) blocks "Writing With Light" more and more for each additional millimeter in the formula, the registration distance of the smallest adapter with a Leica lens should create a big problem for the 36mp A7R Full Frame EVF camera. P. S. It may have been small enough for a coat pocket if you could remove the EVF (I would prefer an IGZO unit) and then use it on a 2nd. Camera or R&R it with the 2020 year model. P. S. S. I would rather have a normal height for the view-finder.
I was waiting/expecting for this to happen. Never believed that Canikon would come with this because they don't have to be inventive. Finally the end of bigger and heavier must be better and more professional. And already a lot op people are telling what the problems are with this new system showing that all evolution comes from those who have an open mind.
What's the big deal? I mean yeah its almost a universal mount (with adapters) but you can adapt a variety of glass to canon EF mount as well, which people like Rice have been doing with Pentax glass for some time now. Full frame has always been available to use your K mount lenses with. Why are Rice's blog and PF both pimping the this new Nex? Sony must be paying pretty good for advertising these days......

I'm not overly impressed. This camera looks like it has no soul. One day sony will abandon its dreary industrial design cues too...ugh.
