K-01 Poll 2/2: How Do You Think about the Practicality of the K-01?

Okay, we've now known everything, what do you think and how is your view?

How Do You Think about the Practicality of the K-01?
It is Extremely Useful and Feature Rich.
Should be Useful.
Nothing Special.
Not Much Useful.
Utter Rubbish, Kind of Nonsense.

I'm surprised at the poll results.

It's almost the same size as the K-5!!! NO viewfinder??

It's also a design fail.

I'm looking forward to seeing the insides. I don't think it is an effective use of volume.

No viewfinder means the price is relatively low/it is cheaper to produce. Certainly there is more than enough space to integrate an EVF... I think that will follow later this or next year. As you can use all but this new XS lens (for now) with this camera AND the K-5, people know they can upgrade to a better camera/investments in lenses are not wasted, thus it IMHO makes sense to be able to release a mid range/entry level camera first. Also I imagine many will buy this camera as a backup to their Pentax DSLR, as such the camera shouldn't be overpriced.

And yes, I really want to see the insides. It should be a pretty empty box.
Yes, and no swivel/ flip LCD screens, if no VF, at least make the LCD swivel!
Come on guys be imaginative, with no mirror blocking, they can design the xs lenses to have a more recessed rear element.

Maybe its just a K-R replacement?

A K-R replacement with less features. Great value!
with a recessed rear element they can build lenses with shorter barrels. plus closer elements to the sensor means..... :)

I am curious how further lenses will look like (and sad that the new XS lens is only for the K-01).

I also believe there will be more cameras like this. A slightly smaller, lighter, and essentially cheaper more consumer version (no FullHD, plastic instead of metal alloys) to this relatively premium _consumer_ camera, and a more pro version. Perhaps 60 fps FullHD, weather sealed, electronic viewfinder (without increasing the camera size, as there should be a lot of space for that in the camera, if necessary through mirrors (the screen could be in the grip, and then redirected to the left of the camera into the corner. Wouldn't it also appear further away from the eye then, thus reducing eye strain?)), additional controls on the body (maybe less focus on scene modes etc., instead offering direct access to aperture, exposure and ISO through dials etc.).

The pricing of this camera IMHO clearly indicates it is not intended to be a top of the line camera, more something mid range, that could be (should be) complimented on both sides.
Um, Pentax's website said that the xs is compatible with current and past K-mount cameras
Sensible design: uses all K-Mount lenses; no EVF or electronic viewfinder: it's not a DSLR, so no big deal; no trying to be what it's not; uses: backup for a DSLR, smaller carry-around APSC camera, not a P&S replacement (neither is the Micro 4/3 or NEX et al); improvements? Pentax, please uncripple the K-Mount so we can use M 42 and KM Mount lenses in simple Aperture and Shutter-Priority modes via aperture ring and Shutter speed selection via Menu. This to me would make it and all Pentax DSLRS completely useful.
And trying to use this with a 55-300 or a *50-135 will be a body builder's dream... :)
goodbye Pentax it was nice knowing you. If ever there was a camera company who refused to listen to it's owners Pentax was it. All those great full frame lenses paired with crap.

If you call K-5 crap, obviously you never handled one or are jealous of what it can do for the money. Pre-set minds can't change as pre-set lenses...There are plenty of others what appreciate Pentax tools. Good luck elsewhere Mr. B.F. :o))
First the Q and then this!!!!!! Pentax obviously favours comedy rather than cameras. What a joke
