Capture One Express 6 is Made Free by Phase One

Capture One Express 6 is now made available for free:-

http://www.phaseone.com/dcm

Via: Peta Pixel

Just follow the instructions provided to obtain the free license and register the product.

Besides, quite some time ago, Adobe had made their CS2 available for download together with "free" registration key in the page below:-

http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html

However, the page has just been deleted yesterday or the day before, for what I have seen.

It seems that if it is not a server problem, Adobe seems to have decided that this "free" download should not be made available any longer.

Btw, I think the original Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4 is just good enough, frankly. It is simple and easy to use. It does not require very powerful machine to run. Now, it is more stable and reliable than the Photo Browser and Photo Laboratory of the previous Version of 3. The produced Image Quality is quite good. And most importantly, the original Pentax software will give you the most faithful and "accurate" Pentax tasted colours, which is unmatched by other 3rd party softwares.

You should try photivo.
Here isn't any documentation, and is not very easy to use, but it gives excellent results.

There is a lot of homemade software in the world of photography. ;)
Why do you strongly recommend us this one?
The only reason to use one of it - because it is open source software and free of charge. OK, good way to save the money. Why do you think one should try the open source software if one have budget to buy well-made and convenient professional software, Capture One Pro 7 for example?

Everyone should try every piece of software or hardware he could get his hands on, because you never know which one fits you better. Some may like Capture one, others may like the lightroom. Photivo, and darktable and rawtherapee and other open source softwares offer differing workflows or results that someone may like more than the mainstream. Rawtherapee for example lets you choose from many different demosaicing methods, each with their own pros and cons. Using open source softwares are not alway useful for only saving money, frequently it's because you can get better results.

Dear friend, if you will be so kind to change your "should" to more friendly "may" - I would be agree with you in some of your opinions. ;)
One should not lose his time to try every piece of software or hardware he could get his hands on, but one may do that if the result from current software he use do not satisfy him. ;) But the best thing is to deeply learn all functionality as well as tips and tricks of owned software. My opinion is that professionally made software for photographers gives for them some warranties in support, upgrades and evolution as well as best functionality. Open source software is good until you don't want to pay money for the tools.

I'm not gonna change it to "may" because "should" satisfy your expectation. Excerpt from "http://www.englishspark.com/en/students/450-must-should,"

"The difference between 'must' and 'should'

The main difference between these two modals is that 'must' is more probable or more likely to happen than 'should'. For example,

You must clean the floors. (I told you to clean the floors. If you don't clean the floor, I will be angry. I will force you to clean the floor.)
You should clean the floors. (I will feel better if you clean the floors, but you don't have to.)

There must be something wrong with this car. (The car is not running as usual. The best explaination is that there is something wrong with it.)
There should be something wrong with this car. (There is some evidence for me to think there is something wrong, but I can't prove it a 100%. For example, the dealer is selling the car for a cheaper price than usual or the car hasn't been started for a long time. I'm less certain because I did not drive the car or experience anything wrong. I'm only guessing after seeing the evidence.)"

That's the grammar lesson of the day, now for the "don't underestimate opensource software" lesson of the day, please go to "http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-9863802-16.html." Excerpts below:

"By 2012, 80 percent of all commercial software will include elements of open-source technology. Many open-source technologies are mature, stable and well supported. They provide significant opportunities for vendors and users to lower their total cost of ownership and increase returns on investment.

Ignoring this will put companies at a serious competitive disadvantage. Embedded open source strategies will become the minimal level of investment that most large software vendors will find necessary to maintain competitive advantages during the next five years."

So your professionally made softwares most likely contain some open-source codes, simply because they are better, not only cheaper. Do you think the programmers didn't try it first?

Thank you very much, dear friend. I even would not expect you will be so kind: I asked you onle only one simple thing and put a smile to identify that this is simply the joke, but you spent your valuable time to give me the complex lesson of English grammar in use. And all of that is for free! ;) I really do appreciate that!
Yes, you are completely right: Great English is not my native language, do forgive me for that. I just learn it and try to practice in spoken and written. ;)
Would you be so kind to continue your teaching and educating me - it is very important to reach a good result in my English practice and not only you, but all other readers of this great blog will be then satisfied by my literate texts. Forgive me my mistakes at this time.
Let me also give you advice in my turn. ;)
Using the only open-source (homemade) software for photographers is only first of three very important steps to obtain a great result. Don't stop on this first step - you may make two next. The second and third steps are: install homemade (open-source) software on the homemade hardware (do you have the soldering-iron?) ;) and make your photos using the homemade photographic gear. ;)
I do understand how many minuses will obtain this post in rating. ;)
Look at this with smile.
Good luck.

Thanks, I was thinking of trying a new editing software in addition to Adobe's PhotoShop CS-6 Extended and LightRoom-4 with plug-ins like onOne's PerfectSuite-7 and Tiffen's DFX-3 as well as Corel's Painter-12. Unlike a trial version I can use this forever without being hindered by messages in software or on photos, then decide if and when to upgrade. I just finished cataloging the Medium Format RAW files from my Digital-Dark-Room and had a few minutes before an associate drops off some RAW files from his Mamiya for editing, I'm editing them in PhaseOne/CaptureOne before cataloging them in PhotoShop and appreciate the opportunity to try this software that's so popular with Mamiya Medium Format users without risking the man-hours so precious to us part-timers.
I like Aperture. For Mac users it's very good and you can preset some adjustments such as auto levels upon importing, and can edit/import and link while leaving the files on an external drive.
For a simple setup, Kodak Easyshare allows linking to an external drive.

Aperture is great software for Mac users, I agree. I like it. But for me it has the two annoying weaknesses: not good enough tool for removing chromatic aberrations (even compare to Lightroom 4 or 5) and there is no tool for geometric corrections.
I like Aperture's colors.
