Reactions of Pentaxians for the Deletion of the "Pentax" Name from Companies!

(Above: A picture drawn by a Pentax user at the Japanese Kakaku Pentax forum, directly linked.)

As we all have learnt, the word "Pentax" will be deleted from all the Ricoh Imaging companies worldwide very soon. Let's see what are the reactions of all we Pentaxians at DPR, PF, Here at my Blog, Kakaku (Japan), Xitek (China), PFC (Taiwan) and DCH (Hong Kong) and etc..

Reactions are overall negative, Pentaxians are feeling worried, insecure, upset, hurt, pissed off, much angered, desperate and whatsoever. Fanboys jumped in between the lines to defend but they help nothing neither and actually it is also clearly shown that they feel rather uneasy themselves. By the way, is our name of the alleged "Pentaxians" still valid?! >:-o

Someone has PSed a Ricoh KR-10 to the following and posted at the Pentax Forums thread above, of which the Rikenon lens is marked as "Revuenon" now, which is quite true for the situation although it is rather sad! What a Revenge it really is! When we look back the history, Ricoh was only a small company who produced their SLRs only under the license of Pentax to allow them to use the K-mount! Btw, just look at the silly lens coating of that Rikenon lens below, which is actually far inferior to the SMC coating of *any* Pentax lens, as it is just so reflective! :-o

After all, this is a marketing nightmare and must be the worst decision made in the whole history of Pentax, since 1919 of the last century, for almost one century ago!

In fact, all those now so-called "Ricoh" Imaging Companies are actually still selling/manufacturing "Pentax" cameras/lenses as the core business - in the meantime! Why deleting the "Pentax" name? What are the real Plan behind Ricoh for what to do next on "Pentax"?? My humble opinion is that should it be better and cleverer to just change the company name to "Ricoh Pentax" from "Pentax Ricoh" if Sovereignty had to be declared! Why the "Pentax" name must be removed and completely be got rid of?!

I never intended to abandoned Pentax, in return Recoh abandoned me. I liken it to the many times a name has been replaced to gain notice for another's work (at times, in hopes of a Pulitzer). So go ahead Recoh, put even more expensive Telephoto Lenses with even cheaper DSLRs for aspiring Pavaratzi's, then see who's impressed.
Rice, I think we have already gone beyond this. Pentax was and still is just a registered trade mark, NOT a company. You are just adding oil to a nonsense-fuelled rant of many 'users' who never bothered to read anything about the history and state of affairs of the Pentax brand name.
The state of affairs now are EXACTLY the same as during Asahi Optical era (almost 50 years in row), same as during the Hoya era.
Pentax trade mark lives on and is more colourful than ever. ;)

You are spot on, thanks for bringing much needed common sense into this. Where my K-x was marked "Hoya", a future K-3 (or whatever other model) will have "Ricoh" written. To be sure, my K-x was branded "PENTAX" and I see no reason why a future model would not be branded "PENTAX" as well. That's all that changed, if anyone wants to read more into it, I it's either because they like to get anxious and angry, or it's just plain Wishful Thinking ("Pentax is bad, Pentax is doomed, Hooray Pentax fails, see I told you so!").

Ricoh didn't put their name and Pentax together on a whim, Panasonic wanted the Leitz family name associated with theirs, and Sony gobbled up Manolta, it's known in business as the PacMan effect. Their's no law against it, but why do you through out lame excuses to bury your heads in the sand, just do it.

It's not the same, Dan. When I first heard "Pentax Ricoh Imaging Company" (P.R.I.C.), a subsidiary name for a newly formed entity under Ricoh, I thought guys at Ricoh went crazy. Did they consult a brand specialist, who could check what the pronunciations means in English? Car manufacturers do that all the time, check possible product names against numerous dictionaries.

With more frequent appearances in public press releases and in corporate life, they'd be a butt of a joke — not taken seriously at all. But a new decision is a good sign, obviously. Geez, with this move they protect the dignity of both Pentax trade mark and Ricoh mother company. I hope we may expect more frequent and more serious announcements from August 1st 2013. ;)

It's like saying your a little ZIT, people don't do that or call Ricoh a PRICK. They do however associate Hassleblad with Nikon and assume the people behind it are interested in building great cameras. Ricoh's been doing very little as far as R & D goes and the result is New owners who brag about waiting until they can get good stuff cheap. As you can guess both my K-5 and K-5iiS are C-size, I intend to keep buying C-Size DSLRs in addition to Full Frame DSLRs, but some idiot will insist I can't. Maybe even call me a snob while pretending Penax must chose C-Size or Full Frame not both, then act like buying a Pentax for half price on clearance is doing them a big favor. Admit it to yourself you bought a Pentax not a Ricoh stop with your lame reasoning!
They say Rome was not built in one day. If they were doing just a little, they would show that little by now. If they're doing something substantial, then we may not yet see all of it. Sounds logical, doesn't it?
Why don't don't we give them a benefit of doubt, at least?

Enough with the child like logic for Ricoh picking a name (like an adult would seriously worry about someone making up a rude name) while talking down to someone who bought a K-1000 when it was a brand new model.
That the name was obviously silly was picked up by hundreds of Pentax forum users, immediately after the announcement 2 years ago. People are not dumb, and many of them care.
Like Daihatsu Charade. So what are you driving? A charade! Or Mazda LaPuta? (In Spanish, a prostitute.) Then Honda almost naming a car Fitta (check it out what it means in Nordic languages). But opted for Jazz and Fit afterwards. Etc. Since many bad starts, they have all became more cautious. Japanese companies, unfortunately, tend to fall into multilingual traps quickly.
By the way, there wasn't Pentax Corporation till 2002. And then, this company existed only for 5 years.
What's the difference? It was "Hoya Corp", not "Pentax Hoya Corp" and that not many cared, now changing from "Pentax Ricoh" to "Ricoh" only is such a big deal? Pentax was a brand rather than an independent company for last couple of years - there is no reason for whining now.

Feel free to put your head in the sand, keep waiting for them to finish building Rome and buying cameras because a company that makes Xerox machines put their name on the factory that makes the camera. Intelligent consumers don't even try to make sense out of your pretzel logic, when it finally comes back around Ricoh never had any intentions of improving Pentax (and made overpriced crap with the Ricoh name on it), they simply bought out the competition (Pentax) instead of making a good camera themselves. Maybe you could put a $10,000 Leica lens (for your sole reason that it's good in low light) on a K-500 (when you can get it for 10 cents on the dollar) with no regard for low light capability. Penny wise and Pound foolish.
