Loyal Pentax Merchant and PR Tool is Pissed Off by Ricoh Recently! >:-o

I seldom quote Mr. Bourque actually, but this time I really can't help myself! :-(

http://pentaxdslrs.blogspot.com/2013/07/sometimes-it-just-feels-good-to-be.html

The following is told, quoted:

"I'm not sure of what's going on with Ricoh/Pentax. They used to loan me the new cameras so that I could write my e-books about them. I also have a  singed  NDA agreement with them but I haven't heard anything from them when the K-50/K-500 were announced. lately, all my emails have been ignored and I will have to purchase the cameras to write e-books."

Well, if guy like Bourque who is a loyal, die-hard and persistent Pentax promoter and merchant is being ignored like this, the Public Relation job of Pentax Ricoh* does really suck! >:-o And, after all, I guess no one will promote the brand more for them any further, at the Internet or not, except me?! ;-p Or, do Ricoh really hope particular brand fanboys who seldom buy to do the job for them for free? :-o (Frankly, those fanboys always only make things worse!)

As for the e-books from Bourque, I think they maybe good for the Pentax new-comers and beginners, but may not be so useful for those more experienced users with longer experiences, IMHO. But at the same time, it is obvious that Ricoh now targets at the entry level market more than Pentax used to be and thus beginners are yet more important than ever before! So, WTF for what Ricoh is doing?!

Last but not least, the good thing that I can still see is that Bourque does have the heart to write his books and he does love the brand as it appears, nonetheless, which I do appreciate his heart and huge effort paid! :-) Albeit he is also earning money at the same time from it and thus there might exist some conflicts for what he writes, especially when he might need to write about the bad things of the Pentax gear or even about he brand - but now it's all over, anyway!

*N.B. For what I have just checked, Pentax Ricoh companies are still named PR as on today, as the soon-to-disappear names containing the word "Pentax" are still shown at their global website page, below:

Pity Yvon Bourque didn't ask for a copier to write a review about; he'd get one immediately, hot from the production line, together with a lifetime worth of toner supply.

I really feel for Yvon Bourque this time. I think PR should at least respond to others' emails, this is the basic manner!

And, I am almost sure that if Ned is still here, this won't happen! But Ned was also the one who had been got rid of, at the first place! :-(

Even since the time Ricoh have bought the Pentax photo division I wondered: why and for what? Ricoh up to that time had it's own concept in photography and I just don't want to discuss: bad or good this concept was. Enough to see that Ricoh's concept was different and is quite different from the Pentax concept. So, why did Ricoh need to buy the Pentax photo division?
I thought this was not to develop the brand of Pentax but to buy it's factories around the world far from the earthquake-prone areas of Japan and to develop the Ricoh's own strategy and product line. Ricoh has bought the Pentax very cheap and got a great engineering and manufacturing capability to create and develop it's own products.
It seems that all things are going to such result.

I find your side note about Pentax trying to appeal more to entry-level buyers than it used to a little baffling, and so would anyone whose introduction to (film) SLRs was one of the millions of entry-level Pentaxes available from the 1960s onward. That very positive experience helped rust me on to the brand, as it did with many others. Of course, Sam Haskins' photos didn't do any harm, either...
Did you just said you are promoting Pentax at your blog? I thought this blog is designed to bash Pentax! Don't flatter yourself.

RiceHigh, It's not that big of a deal. You are making too much out of this. I like Pentax and will continue using Pentax and continue writing e-books about their cameras. Many people I got to know at Pentax are no longer working there. I lost most of my Pentax contacts that way. The new staff is following Ricoh's goals and I am probably too small for consideration anymore. I will buy the cameras, write e-books about them and sell my older models if needed. I'm certain that Ricoh bought Pentax to make money. They have a plan, and only the management know what will give the best return on their investment.

The story doesn't end here. Pentax will survive one way or another. Pentax, I still love you.

In other news, Benji the fashion photographer has left Pentax for Nikon.

If only Nikon's ergonomics were better I would have considered one.
