Pentax Q Low ISO Daylight Real-World Samples (w/ "01" 8.5mm/1.9 Prime)

http://www.yaotomi.co.jp/blog/walk/2011/08/-pentax-q-with-01-standard-prime.html

A few selections (Key EXIF are printed on lower left corner of the pictures):-

CAs are obvious.. Resolution is considerably low.

The green colours are not quite natural, resolving power is as weak..

Flare control is average.

Right hand side of the frame is blurry.

Frankly, the overall IQ seems to be just so-so, not better than that of my WG-1 or even worse, which also has a 1/2.3" (but CCD, not CMOS) sensor!

"CAs are obvious.. Resolution is considerably low."
Yes it's not a winner. Bot it's good enough for twit or LJ

We don't need an ILDC for posting photos on web, a cameraphone will do it, not even a P&S DC is required.

Well. Amater and Pro maybe will like Q for fun with rechangeable lenses on it. They can not play lenses with cameraphone =) (If price foe Q will go down)
Сameraphone is too boring...
It's ordinary P&S's IQ. it's normal.
"CAs are obvious.. Resolution is considerably low."

The Q wasn't made to beat DSLR, just to be a fun and nice P&S with inter changeable lense. So yes, the quality of picture isn't great, but honestly, you did'nt think you could do 20*30cm prints with it?

For $800, The Sony NEX series and the Panny/ Oly 4-3 systems sure can print A4 or better.
For $600, the Pentax K-r can sure print A4+ better too! ;-)
I don't agree, resolution or CAs are not worse than with any long range zoom, like 17-70 or 18-200 ,I even think it's better !

What are you talking about? The Q lens under test is a Prime!
Nothing spectacular as expected, but quite good for the web or even small prints. But it's way too pricey for this IQ.

I presume, these samples are made with the first firmware available.
French magazin "Chasseur dímage Nr.336 / 08-09.11 has samples with the same software and compared 3 shots made in raw at 125/800/1600 ISO developped with lightroom.
Results are remarkable and show that there is potential for Pentax to improve the firmware.
It is at Pentax to use this chance or to fail.
With the "extraordinary image processing" that Pentax claimed, I do not worry about the processing power of the Q firmware/software, what worries us most is only about the quality of the sensor, which by no means could work against the laws of Physics. No way!
