This is What the Limited Lenses Should be Put Onto!

That is, a 135 Full Frame Body!!

Btw, my FA43LE has better Image Quality than my Canon 40mm STM pancake which is yet better than my DA40XS lens on Full Frame (of which the image corner performance is just so poor). So, this adoption is just "unavoidable"! ;-D

My silver 43mm Ltd. is waiting for a FF Pentax body too :)
RiceHigh, what do you think of a Leica S2 ? This or a 645D would be the next step after FF. :D

I sold my DA40. Worst buy. The FA43 is so much better. The only DA lens worth buying is the DA300 or maybe the DA15 if we're stuck with APS-C forever, which seems to be the case with the latest interview. Ricehigh, did you see that new interview posted at PF with top management guy? He said there's little demand for FF in the US or something like that. Interesting read and worth a blog post.

How well the Pentax FF would sell?
This is from the PF, but some startling info.

+++

Today (April 6th) on Amazon sales ranking:
53. Pentax K-5 16.3 MP Digital SLR with 18-55mm Lens and 3-Inch LCD (Black) (Highest ranked Pentax)
54. Pentax K-5 IIs 16.3 MP DSLR Body Only (Black)
55. Pentax K-30 Weather-Sealed 16 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55mm Lens (Blue)
56. 284 days in the top 100 Pentax K1000 Camera with 50mm (f/2.0) Lens

+++

In addition, there's about 5-10 FF's ranked *above* Pentax's highest ranking on the Amazon ... and a Pentax FF film camera, introduced 35+ years ago and discontinued 15 years ago, is selling as well on Amazon as any current Pentax.

As the other user commented, this info must scare the hell out of Pentax and Ricoh, because the K-1000 is a dinosaur by any comparison to current DSLRs, yet it sells on the same level as them!

Amazon is a popular place to buy cameras from. Although we cannot claim the numbers found there are representative of the overall sales of Pentax gear, it does indicate something .. quite bizarre.
It should not be impossible:

• Pentax K-FF entry = K5-II with 24MP-FF-sensor, K5-II firmware without moviemode, without CD-autofocus
• Pentax K-FF flagship = K5-II+K-30 with 36MP-FF-sensor, needs faster CPU for moviemode, focus-peaking etc.

The FF lens designs already exist. Just add the digital coating to some of the higher rated FA-lenses:

• FA 24mm F2.0
• FA 35mm F2.0
• FA 50mm F1.7 (still the sharpest 50mm lens)
• FA 85mm F1.4

• FA 28-70mm F2.8
• FA 80-200mm F2.8
• FA 250-600mm F5.6

That gives a rather complete sytem of 14 FF lenses:

• DFA 24mm F2.0
• FA 31mm F1.8 ltd
• DFA 35mm F2.0
• FA 43mm F1.9 ltd
• DFA 50mm F1.7
• DFA 50mm F2.8 macro
• FA 77mm F1.8 ltd
• DFA 85mm F1.4
• DFA 100mm F2.8 macro
• DA 200mm F2.8
• DA 300mm F4.0

• DFA 28-70mm F2.8 (AW?, DC motor?)
• DFA 80-200mm F2.8 (AW?, DC motor?)
• DFA 250-600mm F5.6 (AW?, DC motor?)

Lens looks great, but the body isn't the best looking. I agree however that the lens deserves to be on a full frame body

btw RiceHigh,
Would you mind telling us why did you choose 5d3 over other FF models like D800 and A99? what was the biggest factor in your decision?

Except that pancake lenses are limited to slow apertures by design since this formula ghosts so easily. There are very good reasons why they're uncommon.

Advertise:
Limiteds may not prevent light leaking from the top screen to the inside of your 5D III, "dooming" your pictures.
