Latest Japanese K-5 "Street" Prices for Kits

Kit Set 1: Pentax K-5 w/ 18-55 WR:-

@ ¥139,300 (~US$1,650)

Kit Set 2: Pentax K-5 w/ 18-135 WR:-

@ ¥170,800 (~US$2,020)

"Kit" 3: Body Only:-

@ ¥125,790 (~US$1,490)

Thus, by subtracting the costs of the lens kits with the body price, the costs of the kit lenses are as follows:-

1. DA 18-55/3.5-5.6 WR: $160

2. DA 18-135/3.5-5.6 WR DC: $530

According to the past experiences, though initial Japanese "street" prices (actually many are online shops also) usually set the reference prices for the US market later on (which would not be lowered for the first few months for new products). So, these should be of good reference value.

Btw, if you just want to buy directly (actually indirectly ;-)) online at those Japanese shops, see my last guide here.

Pentax K-5 Pricing ! Never really raise either of my eyebrows coz I do always an early adopting to new gadgets from pentax whom i believe is always $ per $ value ( even careless at premium tag-price ) As long as the time I touch the shutter and view the expected picture quality will make me smile then WTH, love it !!.What really raised my eyebrow are those ppl requesting K-x sensor to a K-7 body and then some, are questioning the pentax pricing of their new aps-c flagship DSLR " K-5". .And even compare it to new nikon and canon of the SAME sensor must have the SAME price. What i think for them to be able to put MSRP is " They have to chip-in" something (each of them requesting) then they can also request for their on tag-price.

what do you think !!!

Actually, I second your view in principle. If something is good enough, I don't mind to pay the premium. But of course, the consumers always want it to be cheaper, especially when it is compared to similar things in "same" class.
I would like the option of buying directly to the manufacturer. I would like to go to see and view the camera at a Pentax location. There I would be educated on its values by a professionally trained person who can competently answer all my questions. I would also need a desk and a small room with a window to review the camera in private. Then purchase at full list price the camera from Pentax.

In the basic retail environment, I expect competion to drive my purchase(s). I expect too much of people and businesses to turn over my money in a retail store(s) that in most cases are chaotic, cluttered, conjested, dirty [filthy even].
