Toy Story 2! ;->

It can be seen the K-r is considerably larger than the K-x, the side-by-side comparison photos are self-explanatory. Just look at:-

Besides, I can simply see that this "lens hood" is utter stupid, as it blocks the image view and the lego is shown in the taken picture! Effect? :-o

Now, we can know well what type of companies which Hoya is now trying/intended to sell Pentax! Guess what? Toy companies, such as the giants in the field like Bandai, Sanrio or just Lego, etc.!!

Ok, so first of all, they are Nano Blocks, which apparently are smaller than Legos (guessing it is a licensing thing).

So is it silly to incorporate block toys into your camera design? Absolutely, but with what seems like a billion PS cameras out there, you have to set yourself apart. If this causes parents to buy this for their kids instead of a Powershot or CoolPix, or some trendy person want something kitchy, then anything to get them onboard the Pentax train, its all good.

I wish the Kr was closer to the Kx in size, and I am not sure the square pentabox works on this camera, aestetically

I don't really care about aesthetic, just functionality, but I think it looks ok. Like a butcher K-x =)

If they don't announce anything else before or at Photokina, I will be buying one eventually as I'm after a second body, and was going to buy a second K-x later anyway.
Consumers want bigger LCD screens all the time.
Therefore the camera size needs to increase.

The KX is a good size. I also like the feel of my K20. Has anyone seen a size comparision between the KR and K7 or K10/20?
I like that it has the bigger screen at least, easer for video making. Hopefully it will be easier to evaluate pictures on it. The K10D had a perfect monitor for that, I find it harder to see if things really are as I want them on the K-x.

It will be interesting to see how the new AF-system works compared to the old one (SAFOX IX vs. VIII).
At the official Pentax K-r video on YouTube, the pentax rep says the AF is faster than the previous SAFOX VIII

people like this stuff...expeically girls and kids. There is nothing wrong with this...If there is a need someone will fill it...if there is no need someone will create one...
Hi RiceHigh,

Glad you're being so positive about the new Pentax gear! -.-'

1. I think the nano blocks tie-in isn't a problem, just a different faceplate. I kinda like the "looking through a tunnel" look of the photo with that "lens hood"... Goofy.

2. I think, with the use of the same sensor but some minor tweaks, the K-r would have been better named the K-x Super. Not that, that would be a problem, the K-x is a fantastic little camera. I guess Pentax is giving it a new designation to try to show they're moving forward?

3. While recent Pentax launches have been a little lackluster (K-7 was a little disappointing, etc), I think there's still plenty to be happy about with the K20D, K-x and potentially the K-5 (since it has a new sensor!).

PS. You're a HK guy right, RichHigh? Any idea if it's still possible to get a FA35mm in HK? I've noticed over the past year and a bit that Man/Wing Shing have been trying to shift all their Pentax lenses without replacing them (despite the huge Pentax sign out the front!). I used to enjoy heading in there and pawing at the glass, but now there's very little to drool over!
