Once Again, K-01 is Found to be Almost as Large as K-5

This reminds me that in the last interview of the Pentax sales head by the PF that the large size of the K-01 is actually an advantage since it will be more easy to hold the body and now the body-n-lens combo as a whole will be more "balancing" especially when large lenses are used! What a marketing! :-o That guy is really brilliant, I must say, and glad to see Pentax has talent people like him!

At the end of the day, the viewfinder is cut but not much size and weight is saved. It is then lately discovered by someone that the K-01 cannot output video signal via HDMI under shooting mode but in playback mode *only*, followed by what we learnt about the omissions of many standard Pentax DSLR features as disclosed last time by Pentax officially via their Japanese website. These omissions include the in-camera wireless flash trigger and the full function support of the O-GPS1. So after all, I now know what it is all about the "simplified" design and concept of the K-01, i.e., everything is crippled but without any alternative and clear advantages! >:-o At Pentax' side, I think manufacturing costs are saved and hence there will be a larger profit margin!

In short, I think that the K-01 is not only half-baked, but it is now quite safely to say that it is half-brick, if it is just not a full one! ;->

Wait! Hold on a sec... You're complaining that the entry-level K-01 has... entry-level features? If the K-01 were the K-5's successor I would complain also but this is not the case...

IMHO the Q and the K-01 are duffers. I still love my K7 and hope that a worthy replacement for the K7/K5 is in the wings.

The K-01 does not tempt me at all...

The K-01 is a no concept camera. There is no concept in it. Why to remove the mirror? The only valid reason IMHO should be smaller size. The K-01 is basically not smaller. Or does it save the cost? The K-01 is expensive. I do not see any reason to buy this stuff just to become a walking add for some fancy designer name. Those designer promotions are silly. There is no better camera in the Pentax lineup as the K5 as yet.

Funny to see people who think companies have to make stuff they need. I don't need the Q, or a K-r, but what I need is a high quality CSC that is easy to carry. The Olympus Pen or Sony NEX or Panasonic G still don't fit in my pocket and needs a small bag, or carried around my neck, so is the K-01. Okay, the other CSC's are very small with the Pancakes, but wait.... Pancakes --> Pentax!

Why are you looking for another Sony NEX, from Pentax? You can look at the K-01 as a dSLR made for people who want to use the LCD. The contrast AF in the dSLRs are still not good enough for video. This camera fixes that. A EVF etc. can be done in the next version. This first step is very interesting, but not for you.

Also the balance problem with the NEX camera's is no issue with the K-01.

+1 to Spotmatic. This isn't a replacement for the Pentax DSLR's! It's a new different category.

Rice, your missing the point! The K-01 wasn't primarily designed for existing peeps who had K-5. It was aimed at peeps who perhaps were intimidated by DSLR's to begin with so that it acts as an entry point for these peeps in to the Pentax system with a design (aesthetics) that appeals to them or peeps that wanted something 'different' to the norm. It was design led remember!
K-01 has better video mode than K5 ... that would be, at least for me, the only reason to buy K-01 as a second body to go with my K7 instead of buying K5. The full manual control of the video is absolutely critical for me ... It pisses me a great deal that K7 and K5 don't have it.
