What True IQ Should be Expected from a 40MP MF DSLR?

Thanks to Peter Zheng at RiceHigh's Free Pentax Discussion Group, I've revisited the following two Japanese links to the sample images produced by the 40MP Mamiya 645DF:-

When these are compared to the sample images from the Pentax 645D Beta, the difference is just like night and day! :-( (Even we just compare the small sized pictures - we have never seen any full sized Pentax 645D samples released and published so far btw! But WHY??)

How come this could be? The sensor size and pixel count of the two cameras are nearly the same, possibly with the same sensor used inside actually.. How come?? (I really scratch my head hard this time!)

I may be blind but where do you sea the difference? in what aspects? besides there are some new photos on the 645d mini site

The 645D samples are underexposed, lack of contrast, colour reproduction is not that favourable and the skin tone rendition is strange! As there is no full size samples released yet, I am not commenting on the pixel sharpness, anyway.

Just look at Mamiya's samples, on the other hand, they are just almost perfect!
really those samples from the mini site are poor examples. I'm sure the 645d is capable of temendous quality...its just like the pictures first produced by the k7 they were poor examples till some really good photographers got the camera and really showed the world what it was capalbe of. I still say the k7 really has a different and very fatastic looking images when it comes to detail.
i'm sure the 645d will be a hit for those who need....i don't need 40 megs files it would kill my computer. I think you need a a dual core processor for all that.
Hmm,, is Pentax still working on the sensor (which they think is not good enough) and this is the main cause of the delay?

Or it could be to work with some serious flaws they've lately found out! :-o
I think that this serious flaws are unwishfull thinking. Maybe thaey really haven't met the demand of the already made pre-orders. I would be very disapointed if my pre-order would come to me 3 weekes after 645D hiting the shelves. Besides until we'll see some major internet site to review it and give samples and DxO we won't be sure what quality its capable of.

Ps. I think those samples were not meant to measurbate, but to look crispy and nice just like every marketing material. In my opinion they meet my expectations for a nicelly looking photos.
Practically even the same sensor is produced in various quality grades - test/sample, engineering, consumer, high-quality, aerospace, scientific. With those grades varies impurities in material, micro defects, dead/hot pixels etc. This can result in different noise levels, charge leak, bad pixels, decreased dynamic range etc.

After this, the sensor may be treated differently by choosing various IR filters, anti reflective coatings, dust repellent coatings and other factors that effect image quality.

Still. The differences seen in images might as well be related to unfinished post processing procedures in Pentax camera. Most CCD's have very pale and gray output - you can see this very well with ufraw. Contrast and color reproduction, except certain, very special properties, almost always depends on post processing.
